CONGRATULATIONS~!

YAY TEAMS~!!! You did it. Got the majority of the work reviewed and on model. Got your work in on time. Got a great reaction from the faculty and assorted crew~!

WELL DONE!!!

Now the real work begins. The storyboards went down GREAT. Mark pitched beautifully and creatively and brought your work to vivid life. We're moving toward animatic now in a bid to have the preprod wrapped by the end of the semester.

Although we are moving to new projects in the class I will be asking for the continued involvement of selected artists in providing revision boards for the animatic. This work will only happen in the next few weeks so we're all having a bit of a break form the project.

You deserve it~! I'll provide more specific details next week in class. For now, a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL :D

Camera Intro

To avoid swapping all my boards I tried to do a camera move. If anyone could, it'd be great to get some feedback on it. I guess if no one is able to I'll go with my gut feeling on whether I should keep the camera move or just flip the boards.

Proposed camera intro

Thanks!

***IMPORTANT***

New Plan for Next Week~!

Hey guys, just wanted to make sure that we're all on the same page... So in light of the building being officially closed to students (Grrr) we're not expected to deliver an animatic on Tuesday~!

Rather you are expected to have ALL your boards drawn out in presentation quality and on model. Old drawings that don't work will not be accepted~! Use this time to your advantage and make sure that your work in up to scratch for the presentation on Tuesday. Steph and Chris are your respective leads for this final push of preproduction.

If in doubt. Post it. I'll be reviewing regularly tomorrow and Monday morning.

Please adhere to the guidelines from Producer Andy to the letter. We need jpegs only~!

Thank you ALL so much for going the extra mile with this project~!

Notes from Basecamp

Hey guys,

Just to make sure everyone sees and is aware of the producer and directors notes that have been posted on basecamp I'm going to post them here:

    - Have the pants up on the first butt joke.

    - there's an issue with positions. Take in consideration that these are going to be the positions of the main characters. Luisa is on First Brad is on second and Vince is on third and shortstop. Mikey is in the outfield.

    - On the silhouette shot of the kids cheering make them smaller because Luisa is belittled by the silhouettes.

    - Maybe try to tie the gag of the alien eating the baseball bat and the alien doing the flower chain into one.

    - The alien gag where they are with the candy wrappers. make it a little shorter and more pathetic. Don't have them move so much. one alien points to the ball and the other one belches as he tries to reach for it with no success.

-Keep their technology consistent from the pitching machine to the UFO.

Older notes but possibly still applicable:

-The introduction to the aliens should be a shadowshot.

-When Brad gets angry at the alien he should only shrug his shoulders and take a step forward.

-After the whole part when luisa talks to Brad and calms him down we want to keep the alien slide that ends with the Taunt. but loose the kiss, that's pushing a bit too far.

-Since this project is very sensitive as to how politically correct it should be, we have to loose all the ass shake jokes through out the whole piece.

-When Mikey gets to the bat and both baseballs shoot out Mikey swings back and forth.

-Take more time with the gag where the aliens are full with the candy and the ball falls right in between them and one of them belches. Take more beats to do the gag.

-For the final shot. we should have a tracking shot as they walk out into the distance as we shift to the confidence card for the final shot.

Obviously some things have already been dealt with and changes have happened in the script but it's never bad to review things that have been said especially by our director and producers

Message from Producer Andy...

Hello Everyone!

Here is the naming conventions for the storyboards. We need to have these done by Monday afternoon! Please upload all the Jpgs’ of your boards to Basecamp with the naming convention in a zipped folder with your name (I.E. “ChrisRieser.zip” or “EliAfrica.zip”). We need these by 8:00 PM on Monday, March 21st. That’s next week. Jesus and I are presenting these with Mark to the Directors of the Department next Tuesday.

If you have any questions, ask me!! We need to have these right!

Mikey Up to Plate

Here are some re-worked boards from the beginning of Mikey comming up to plate.

SPRING BREAK - LAB IS CLOSED~!!!

Hey guys, so I've just got official word on this from the Powers-that-be. Next week the building is closed~! Absolutely no exceptions to this.

That said, we have a deadline with the Junior Giants and I'm talking to Chris about the animatic deadline. We may have to review deliverables?

Meeting is still on tomorrow though and I'll have more for you then.

Cartoony Construction

As one of my more egotistical moves, I quickly scribbled together a rough construction page for both the giants and the aliens. Probably a mistake (there are better people for this), but it might help some folks.

The main point of this is to show the basic shape template one could modify to differentiate the characters. Helpful...?

Meeting on Thursday~!

Hey gang,

Junior Giant's Animatic Meeting on Thursday at 2pm.

Room TBA

See you there~!

Dailies - 15th March - Team Venture

Eli:
Great use of Chris' boards.
Keep the action moving. Too many cuts.
The alien pitching machine is nicely done but it's too scary too soon.
The shadow as it forms need to be cut down.
Let the ball come to screen and create the cut - transition.
I think the side view and the frontal view are in need of work.
Don't fill the frame. You don't like negative space.
Keep Luisa in one shot.
Lose the pounding on the bars.

Davin:
You don't know the script. That shows a distinct lack of awareness in your work and the connection between the script. Get involved with the group! Your drawing is beyond rough, you've got to tighter up your style more...

Chris:
Great treatment of the Aliens. Daisy chain? Ask Director.
Excellent change in the reaction of the coach.
Great dialogue between Mikey and Coach.
The crash zoom in still works GREAT~!
The change in reaction for Mikey is good.
The gag with Aliens is extended but be clear about it and the distance between the ball and the characters.

Thanh:
The graphics with the food and the links with the characters are good.
The layout needs to be refined and the group together needs to be reviewed.
Make the kids hear the ship coming down from orbit and then cut on the action.
The aliens getting beamed up is fine, keep it simple.
The ending 'sunset shot' is in need of reviewing.
Lose the gate and the fencing.

GET TO IT~!

Dailies: 15th March - Team Steph

Steph:
Great job with the set-up.
Get rid of the crossing characters.
Pitch with more confidence even when it's rough~!
Clean up skills and rendering are now essential.

Brian:
You haven't changed your boards too much. Again.
You can always make this more on model.
The gag with the giant bat was missing.
The Coach's close up was too scared.
Good reaction shot of the Giants.
Brad's fighting pose needs to go~!

Andrew:
Good Rendering.
Lower angle on the Big guy.
Rope gag - Needs to go? Sub with the Oversized cane. From left
How would the ball reaction to the Vibrobat?
Keep it low and fast through the scene.
Zig zag the ball through the shot.

Rusty:
Keep your characters in the model size comparison.
Good gameplay. Works really well.
Works well from a story telling.
Screen direction in the ball hitting.
Size of the alien is too short.
The gameplay works well.
Pull back from the action more...
Too tight on Luisa throwing the ball.
Draw to model but abbreviate.

GET TO IT~!

Insane Mode

Here are some suggested sketches for the insane scene where the pitching machine shoots out 2 baseballs. I only show the machine transformation and didn't have time to include Chris's neat details of the alien on the mound reacting/doing his thing and the gun stretching/squashing before the baseballs shoot out, which we should keep.

Maybe for the last & final alien machine pitch, the second gun retracts back in and it goes into the "blinking target mode" before it fires again?
