FamousFrames - Mark Harris

I chose Mark Harris to write about from the FamousFrames site. His work is very fnely painted, and his compositions are simple and breathe easily, especially the environmental shots.

I really enjoy his use of color. His shots are often extremely saturated, but he maintains control and focus, and he does knock it back when appropriate. These two sets of images show that. In the first, all the colors are very bright and punchy, like M&Ms. In the second, he uses mued grey-browns and warm yelows to create a grimy desert atmospere that suits the military image he's going for.

I also like all the dutch angles that he's using. They bring exciting diagonals into relatively simple compositions, giving energy to an otherwise static shot.
The way he renders his shots, making each a full illustration, really defines the atmosphere for the final video. It's very clear what the light is doing, what the textures are meant to be, and where the emphasis falls. Nothing is left ambiguous.
