Construction Crew Story and Character Drawings

So our team talked about our story over the weekend and this is what we've come up with;

The Junior Giants gang (Luisa, Brad, Vince, Mikey) walk down the street, reminiscing about the great game they played yesterday and how they can’t wait for todays game. They approach the field only to find it surrounded by fences with signs saying “Closed for Development” The Junior Giants are distraught and don’t know what to do. A bulldozer, excavator, dumptruck, and forklift pull up, and out hops Lorry (Female), yelling at everyone to get to work, Buck (shady dude wearing sweater, shades, and 5’oclock shadow) starts playing tricks on the others, Victor (skinny teen) starts texting on his phone, and Mitch (Big fat dude) grabs some chips and starts munching, quickly followed by a long limousine. The driver hops out and runs around to open to back door and out walks the Landowner (Old skinny rich guy). The landowner yells “Hey get off my new property you darn kids!” They kids yell back “Hey this is our baseball field!” The Landowner replies “Not anymore it isn’t!” the JrGiants Coach walks up and asks “What’s all the commotion about?” The Landowner replies “You’re all on my new property, if you don’t leave I’ll call the police and have you all arrested for trespassing!” Coach replies “Woah! Calm down there, maybe we can work something out here, these kids have been playing baseball here for years, how about we play a little baseball game for the field?” Landowner replies “Ridiculous!” Mitch chimes in “Come on boss, lets just humor the kids, (and whispers) don’t worry, we’ll clobber them!” The Landowner looks incredulous and replies “Ha! I’m not in the business of humoring kids!” Mitch replies "Aww Boss, haven’t you ever had a dream of playing professional baseball?” The Landowner looks stunned and flashes back to his childhood, a scene of him cheering watching the Giants, scene of him failing trying to get an autograph on a bat, scene of him in the outfield at a game, crouching picking his nose, coach yells at him to stop picking his nose, everyone laughs, he runs off crying. Back to present, Landowner dreamily says “I don’t know…” Coach pulls out a bat and says “and if you win we’ll even throw in this bat, signed by our whole team!” The Landowners eyes open wide and says “Fine, one game! (and back to his workers) make it fast!” The game ensues, the workers take the field and the JG are up to bat. Lorry starts yelling at everyone telling them to go different places, Luisa hits a ball right past her, Lorry yells “Hey Victor go get that ball, make it snappy!” Victor stands in the outfield as the ball rolls up to his feet, he stays texting on his phone. As Luisa runs up to second base Buck pulls a ball out of his pants and says “You’re out! HAHA!”, the umpire yells “I don’t think so buster! I saw that! Penalty to the Contruction Crew!” The Land Owner starts yelling at the Jr Giants and making rude gestures. Mitch is slurp’n down a soda on 3rd base and the ball gets tossed to him but he panics and ducks, soda gets all over, Luisa runs for home. JrGiants cheer. Scoreboard shows JrGiants getting points every inning and Construction Crew nothing. JrGiants huddle up and Coach suggests “Hey, this is no contest, why don’t we show them the JrGiants way of playing, following the Four Bases!” The JrGiants agree, Luisa says “These guys could really use our help, and there’s no way we could lose anyway, we’re up by 6!” Later in the game Lorry is yelling at her teammates “Take your places, Mitch, you go on 2nd, not 3rd! Victor, get up here on first, you’re just lollygagging out there!” Luisa walks up and says “That’s not how you lead, you need to be part of the team. Lead by example!” Lorry begrudgingly tries, Luisa hits a grounder toward her and Lorry dives for it and throws it to Buck on first and gets Luisa out. A bunch of balls fall out Bucks pants and the umpire yells “Hey! Cheater, that’s another penalty to the Construction Crew!” Brad walks up to Buck and says “You need to play with integrity! Having penalties against the whole team won’t help you.” Buck shrugs it off, but when Brad comes up to plate and runs up to his base, Buck lets him by without cheating. The ball comes up to Victor again and he stands there texting ignoring the game as Brad runs around the bases and scores. Vince walks up to him and says “You need to play as a team, you’re only as strong as your weakest link!” Vince goes up to bat, hits it toward him, Victor looks at the ball, decides to pick it up and throw it to Buck at 1st, getting Brad out. It’s the 7th inning stretch and everyone heads to their dugouts. Mitch starts munching on some chips and Mikey walks up, takes the chips out of his hands “Here, try this carrot instead, think of it as a performance enhancer.” The Landowner starts making rude gestures at the JrGiants again and Coach walks up to him and says “You shouldn’t be so hard on the players, treat others how you would like to be treated.” The Landowner looks stunned but stops yelling. The game starts up again. Mitch is up to bat, he looks scared. The Ball comes toward him and he falls to the ground in fear. Mikey walks up and says “You need to conquer your fears and play with confidence!” The next ball that comes up to him he takes a swing and hits a home run. The scoreboard shows the Construction Crew catching up. The game ends, with the Construction Crew winning. The Junior Giants look sad but Coach says “We might have lost the field but you should all be proud of how well you taught those workers to play the JrGiants way!” The Landowner, stunned by the way his workers turned around, walks up to the JrGaints and says “Im simply amazed at how you were all able to teach my workers to be decent people, now they’ll work with 3times the efficiency! I’m going to let you have your field anyways!” The JrGiants cheer, and the coach says “Thank you, because of your kindness we’re going to make you an honorary member of the JrGiants! Here’s your bat signed by the whole team!” The Landowner tears up, finally realizing his childhood dream.

And here's my Comfort Zone assignment slightly re-done (I think I remember you saying you wanted this posted up),

And here's my Frames assignment (I think you also wanted this posted up, but not sure...better safe than sorry)

Famous Frames Critique: Yori Mochizuki

I chose Yori Mochizuki as the artist I would critique. I found his storyboards under the video games section of Famous Frames and they immediately jumped out at me. Probably because of the bright red blood splatter behind his Saboteur boards. But also also liked the way he used lots of lights and darks, or chiaroscuro. It adds a lot of atmosphere to his boards. I’ve always liked to draw with shadows than just line drawings so his boards are a great inspiration to me on how to do it right. He also has an interesting method of having a white outline outside the black outline of his characters, further separating them from the background, it’s almost like they’re glowing. His boards are simple and not overdrawn but get across all the information. He also has some very nice action poses. In his other cartoony boards he is very good at getting on-model, all the Nintendo characters look exactly like they’re supposed to.

The only problems I had with his boards was for one, Donkey Kong doesn’t look very on-model, little off. And his Assassin’s Creed boards were a little too rounded in the cloth and shading. All those boards had some pretty bad cloth drawing. Especially on the bottom right drawing of this board.
